Fundraising!

Well, we just finished up our 4th  fundraiser for our JDRF walk team, Kaci's Krushers- and we still have 6 months to go....

Thank you to everyone who supported our family walk team through the purchase of one (or more) delicious butter braids! We sold 70 braids and made $350 for Kaci's Krushers!!  I feel so blessed that I found a small business with such a great product that was willing to work with us (for the 2nd year in a row) as a small family team. Obviously- we can not sell as many Butter Braids as a school, cheer or football team- but Meaghen was still willing to work with us and I am very grateful! Once you have enjoyed your delicious Butter Braid....and wish you had ordered more... give me a call!( I ordered a few EXTRA!)

I also want to thank everyone who ordered from Mixed Bags. This was the smallest fundraiser to date and only brought us $45 - but we are not complaining. Every penny counts and we count every penny!

Schwans Home Delivery was another very successful fundraiser this year! It lasted just over a month and brought our team $200! A big thank you to Julia and Aunt Berber for spreading the word at their school and getting several of the teachers in on this big event. Julia even organized one delivery day and time for all of the teachers at their school. This was the first year we had worked together with Schwans....but it will not be the last!

.....and last but not least....I have to send out a big thank you to my beautiful neighbor, Beth Irwin! She hand made Boo- Boo bunnies and sold them  individually and in groups to neighbors, co-workers and businesses and donated ALL of the profits to Kaci's Krushers. Her amazing product and the gift of her time- rasied $240 for our team! God broke the mold when he made Beth. We love you so much!

Please stay tuned for more information on our upcoming fundraisers. T-shirts are in the process of being designed and we plan to auction off handmade ornaments and sell beautiful, plush poinsettias as the holiday season approaches!!

We know it is still months away- but we would love it if you clicked on the link below and joined our walk team. (it is FREE) It is never to early to show your support for Kaci and the millions of others just like her that are affected by Type 1 Diabetes.

We will NEVER lose HOPE until a CURE is found!

We hope that you are able to join us at the walk on November 13th! Donations are greatly appreciated- but nothing beats the true support of family and friends by being present on Walk Day! Hoping to have our biggest team yet this year!

WHACKY!

Kaci sugars have been a bit whacky (to say the least) this last month or so. Mostly "HIGH" with a few "in range" readings sprinkled it. Ever since Halloween... We-(well, mostly me) fears the low so bad - that we started correcting before she was truly even "low" ( below 70)
I know that this has affected many of her readings....

However, after a few weeks of high readings... I had to get my ass in check and chill myself the "F" out! I was beginning to freak Kaci out- and that is "no bueno" - because until there is a cure, this Diabetes shit is forever.... And she can not live in fear of her own body!

So--- we stopped treating lows before they happened and sugars started adjusting up on their own.... But continued to adjust WAY UP! There was no denying we needed to up her Lantus ( long acting insulin) -- but this always scares the shit out of me for several days.... Afraid that the increase will be too much, therefore creating the lows, that really scare the shit out of me! Damnit! Diabetes!

Since the increase in Lantus- her readings have been better, but still not great. I dread the doctor visit in June. I fear her A1C will have dramatically increased- and even though I know in my heart of hearts- we have done the best we can- with our testing, with our carb calculations, with our insulin ratios and night checks... I also know MY emotions and fears have screwed more than a few readings up. -- And as a parent, how frustrating is it to do the best you can, with what you've got, where you are... And still sometimes do it wrong!? Well, if you are a parent.... You know that sometimes happens, but it still sucks ass--- and the guilt is still there.

Today- numbers were mostly good. Only one true "low" reading- but a wonky CGM that is just as frustrating. Arrows pointing up, then down within minutes- shutting off, then asking for additional blood sugar checks.  Also, add in the fact that Kaci gas been running HIGH so often that "in range" numbers are giving her the effects of a low- shaky legs, dizziness, light headed!  She feels like she needs to have sugar, but can't! Hey, have I mentioned  that Diabetes sucks!

So- the moral of this post- is sometimes you just need to type out your feelings- and then you feel a little bit better- WELL...maybe after a nap.....

Flag Football comes to an end!

Last flag football practice was tonight. Tournament is on Saturday. Bailey and the Titans had a 4-2 season--- and if they win their 4:00 game this weekend, they go on to the Super Bowl at 5.

I am so proud of Bailey this season. He has grown a lot and shown a lot of improvement. He has made some really great passes and has been a really good quarterback for the team. I love flag football!  What I am not sure I love is "tackle" football! Oh. Dear. Lord. No.

He has chosen to sign up to be on the 7th grade middle school team. I have always told him he could play flag until middle school- THEN- he could play tackle, because 7th grade always seemed so far away.... Um...,, but here we are....

I am not worried that he won't get playtime on the field- or that he may not make A Team. I'm not worried if they win or lose, or if he warms the bench more than others.

I am worried that he will get hurt. End of story! Please pray with me for a season filled with zero injuries and lots of self esteem boosting moments from his coaches, his teammates and even his crazy worrying mom!
