Pumpkin Time!

Love pumpkin carving time! This is Bailey's very own creation....Looks like Frankenstein to me!
Kaci was very creative this year! She made this cute little ghost! Sort of reminds me of the Pac- Man ghosts!
Happy Halloween Everybody!!!

Your welcome!

Dear Andrea,

Thank you! The Austin 2012 Walk to Cure Diabetes is now in the
history books and we could not have done it without you! You gave us
your time, talent and commitment. As you know, our goal is to improve
the lives of every person affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by
accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing,
better treating, and preventing the disease.

We have an unrelenting passion and commitment to find a cure as soon
as possible. Without people like you, we could not unite the best and
brightest minds from around the world and support programs with the
greatest potential of achieving our goals.

Thank you for being a T1D hero!

With sincere gratitude,

Austin Chapter

Say Boo 2012

Today was the "Say Boo To Diabetes" Walk!
We had a great day and the weather was perfect!
We got to see Lenny the Lion from Medtronic again this year.
Kaci and Grandma Dee shot some hoops!
 Bailey played Monster Mash-
While Kaci got her face painted!
 Taking a break to smile!
The walk was 2 miles, but it sure went fast.
It is always fun to be on the look out for our Boo Buddy sign.
 We found it!
I wonder how many walkers were out today....LOTS!!
Thanks to everyone who came out to walk with us.
Grandma Dee and Papa smiling with Kaci!
 Kaci and GYH!
 Kaci and Uncle Chad!
My babies! It was a great day! I am so proud of Kaci and how well she has learned to take care of herself and her diabetes!

Pumpkin Patch!

We had planned to make a trip out to Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls this year- but our schedule and the weather seemed to think otherwise. We didn't make it out- but we did stop by the great Pumpkin Patch in Georgetown. Look at my little farmers. So cute!
Kaci age 10-
Bailey picked this big one! It sure is going to look great when we carve it, if he doesn't throw out his back first!

UT vs. Baylor!

UT vs. Baylor
Good times had by all!
The weather was a little humid and a little sticky- until the 3rd quarter breeze kicked in- but the snowcone and the bottled water got us through!
Oh yeah... that and the winning score!
Way to go Longhorns!
 Hook 'Em!!

A great season!

So proud of Bailey and all of the boys on the Scrapper baseball team!! It has been a great season. The boys finished their last regular season game today with a win of 4-2 against the Express!

It has been a great season with 7 wins and only 1 loss.

The boys have really come a long way. It was Bailey's first year in Kid Pitch (along with many of the other boys as well) The first few games everyone had to get used to the new feel of the game- but at the game today the boys were all playing "real baseball"!
It was awesome to watch.

First play-off game will be this Wednesday at 7:45.
If the boys win, they will play in the final tournament game at 11:00 on Saturday! I can't wait....

I feel like a flying egg....Change is hard!

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. - C. S. Lewis

JDRF Kids Walk and Special Guests!!

I had so much fun today at Kaci and Bailey's school presenting the JDRF Kids School Walk to Cure Diabetes! It was nice to only have to present 6 times at 50 minutes a piece. Seems like a long time to have to talk, but I had a little help from a video and two very special guests!

Kaci's PE teachers allowed both Kaci and Loren (another diabetic student at the school) to come to the gym for the last 10 minutes of every presentation! The kids got to ask them questions about what it is like to have diabetes, their pumps, shots and meters! I was so proud of these girls. They weren't shy at all - showed off all of their tools and everything in their diabetic kits and purses!
Here are the 3 of us wearing our Say Boo to Diabetes Walk Team shirts. First, I wore Kaci's-
then I had to take a turn wearing Lorens~

I think it is so important for the students to see "real" kids that are affected by diabetes. Not only does it show them that they are no different than anyone else- it also let's the students know that it really is a disease that could affect (and does) affect them! I am so thankful to the wonderful PE coach for getting a schedule together for the girl's teachers and letting them come down to present through out the day. I know if it had been up to the principal- it never would have happened. She wouldn't even allow the girls to share their story at the School Walk 2 years ago in written form. She didn't think it would be fair to "highlight" the girls!! -Are you freakin' kidding me!!!?  Needless to say- I am not a fan....

Anyway-  I hope to be back on November 2nd to count all of the money that is raised. The school did a great job when the walk was held 2 years ago- raising close to $8,000!! Amazing!

Math Pentathlon

I need to learn how to say NO!

It is a very easy word.

Only 2 letters.

Only 1 consonant and 1 vowel.

Why oh why is it so hard for me to say.....

As if I don't have enough on my plate- I am now the newest 4th and 5th grade coach of the Math Pentathlon Club at Kaci and Bailey's school.

Don't laugh!

If you know me and math-
you know we are kind of like oil and water-
We don't mix!

But if you know me....
You also know I don't say NO very well-

JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes!

I am back at it again!

We finished stuffing 5,000 Kids School Walk Folders as a family and now it is time for me to present at our local area schools. This year it will be a little bit harder to be as involved as I was last year- since I only have Friday off from work- but I am going to do my best to help out as much as I can.

On Friday, I presented at Spicewood Elementary. Fun to go back to my old school- and boy how time has changed it. I presented 12 different times - each presentation being 25 minutes. Those poor PE teachers must have thought I sounded like a broken record. Bet they could have done the presentation by the time I was done that afternoon! LOL!

So excited that on Friday, October 19th I will be presenting at Kaci and Bailey's school. Should be lots of fun! I will make six 50 minute presentations this time. I will also have a little help from Kaci and Loren at the end of each one. They are the only Type 1 Diabetics at the school- and they are going to help me out!I can't wait. Going to be so much fun!

Class President!

If you are keeping up with the blog (which should be easy- since I rarely post anymore! ) - You know that Kaci ran for Vice President of her school.
 Well, unfortunately she lost.
However...good news is she didn't give up and she ran for President of her 5th grade class.....
and she WON!

WORD!

Way to go, Kaci!

I am so proud of you for not giving up.
It would have been easy to say- "I lost the last race, so I am not even going to try for this one!"
But you didn't .....and you ran...and you WON!!!!

I love you!
