"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

A few months ago we decided to make an Art Gallery of our own in our home. We picked several pieces of art that Kaci had made and several that Bailey had made. We found the perfect frames at JoAnnes and hung them in the hall right outside on Clint and my bedroom! It makes me smile every time I walk by...
Calico Cat - Kaci, Age 7
Sheep - Kaci, Age 4
Sheep- Bailey, Age 2
The Fish- Bailey, age 3
Flower Vase - Kaci, Age 6
Noah's Ark - Bailey, Age 4
Self Portrait - Kaci, Age 5

Here is the whole gallery!

Anyone who says you can't see a thought simply doesn't know art. ~Wynetka Ann Reynolds

I am so proud of Kaci! Her art has been chosen to be a part of the RRISD Art Exhibition! (Click on the letter to enlarge the writing so that you can read more about it!

"Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up,snow is exhilarating;there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds"

Well, I will be the first to admit....that I was a doubter! I didn't believe it last night when the weatherman said the snow would be here (even when they said 90% chance) Well, I will be the first to admit that I was wrong too...and gladly so! When Clint and I woke up this morning it was to the sound of sleet and rain. I figured it would stay that way a good portion of the morning and we MIGHT see some snow after lunch or mid- afternoon... boy was I WRONG!

I waited as long as I could and then headed to the school about 11 to pick up the kids! I figured that some "life experiences" are just more important. In 10 years no one will remember that they left school early on February 23, 2010- but they will remember the SNOW DAY forever!

Look at Bailey go!

Kaci gathering snow for a snowball!

What a cute snowman...cheesestick for a nose, dove chocolates for eyes,
and a grass runner for a smile!

Kaci loves it!

Snow angels....a change of clothes coming right up!!

Let's try it again now that dad is home and we have dry clothes on!

Here is Bailey and his snow bomb!

Thinking Day 2010-

We got to go to Thinking Day 2010 tonight with Kaci's Girl Scout troop. It was hosted by Kaci's school- so that was nice. The theme this year was "End World Poverty and Hunger" Kaci's troop represented the country of Russia. Mrs. June (one of the troop mom's) was in charge of this event and she did an AWESOME job! She lived in Russia for several years and really has a passion for the Russian people and their hardships!

We took this doll to be part of our table display. When I was younger, I had a pen pal from Russia - I guess through school. My memory is so bad I can't remember. But I do remember that she sent me this doll and my mom and dad have hung on to it all these years for me. Now it belongs to Kaci and she loves it too!

This is not the whole troop, but all the girls who attended this event-
Hannah, Rhyan, Kaci, Morgan, Jamie and Blayne!
These are the letters the girls made to send to some of the children in the Russian Orphanage. We will also include some stickers and Easter goodies in the package along with some "sweets" that they don't usually get to indulge in! They are going to have a write up in their paper about the girls and their troop. I sure wish I could get my hands on a copy of that - as they are going to include a picture of our girls in the paper as well!

Kaci finished off the night with a little jump rope! Look at her go!

During the hour event we walked around and visited the booths of lots of other countries. Kaci got her passport stamped by all of them and was also given a "swap" - which is a decorated pin, from each country! It was a well put on event. We can't wait for next year!

Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel. Mark 1:15

Today is Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days (forty days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It falls on a different date each year, because it is dependent on the date of Easter; it can occur as early as February 4 or as late as March 10. Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned. This paste is used by the priest (or minister)
who presides at the service to make the sign of the cross, first upon his own forehead
and then on each of those present who stand before him at the altar rail.

We went to church at St. Thomas tonight to receive our ashes.
Kaci and Bailey want to participate again this year by giving up something they love for Lent. Kaci is going to give start by giving up Mario Cart for the first week and then follow up each week by giving up something else she loves. Bailey is going to give up drinking Diet Coke It could be a very long 40 days! ha But -I am very proud of them for trying!

Last year I gave up Mountain Dew- but have decided this year to give up ALL soda! WOW!
This could be a tough one...but I am determined to do it. Who knows...maybe drinking more water will become a habit for me! It would be a nice one to have!

As we were leaving the church- Bailey said, " I sure wish Dad was her to celebrate this moment with us!" So sweet....Clint is out of town on business.

We celebrated afterwards by going out to eat at Lubys! The kids loved it and 2 hours after our meal...Kaci's blood sugar was perfect! Yeah for us on guessing the carbs in her meal!!

Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.- Roosevelt

We finally did it...We finally bought a Rainbow playsystem! We figured if we were going to "bite the bullet" and spend all that money, we had better do it while the kids would still get plenty of use out of it! So- here it is!! TA-DAAAAAAAAAAA! Our Valentine presents to the kids! I think it is AMAZING!!! - 2 swings, a slide, monkey bars, rock wall, view finders, ship wheel and a picnic table underneath! Now we just need warm weather and green grass!

Here is Bailey smiling at the picnic table!

Here is Kaci ...spying on the neighbors! j/k!

At the top of the slide!

Enjoying an after school snack with PaPa!

After we finished snack and came inside...Kaci got a stack of color books, crayons and her blankete and went back out to work in the "treehouse" She is in love!

World Thinking Day 2010!

The theme for World Thinking Day 2010 is girls worldwide say “together we can end extreme poverty and hunger”. This ties directly to our Global Action Theme (GAT), which is linked to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in particular MDG1: ‘Eradicating Poverty and Hunger’.
So- this morning as part of the project - we all got together at Mrs. June's and Blayne's house to work on our swap pins. Troop 2549 is representing Russia, so their swap pins were made of red, white and blue beads to help represent their flag.

The girls worked really hard and made 100 swaps in just about an hour!
Way to go girls!!
